page prints magenta background

After installing a new magenta cartridge the printer started printing magenta all over the background of the paper.  I replaced the cartridge with a brand new cartridge believing that to be the problem and everything was fine for about a week.  The new cartridge started to exhibit the same behavior.  I again replaced the cartridge with an old cartridge from another printer and it worked fine until it ran out a week later.  The user then replaced the cartridge with a brand new cartridge and is getting some blocks of pages with magenta background and some without.

Thanks for any thoughts or things to test for.

ok, after doing some more reading I found an article that showed how to swap the magenta and cyan cartridge.  Sure enough the printer then printed cyan on the paper background so it seems the cartridge is not the issue, but he says the high voltage contact.  Could it be something else?

I have an old 3800 I am using for parts, is there a manual out there that might show how to fix this problem?

After digging in and replacing the magenta contact that make the connection to the cartidge and the board that is behind there, the printer is still putting a background of magenta on the paper, this time in bars.  This even happens when I print a configuration page directly from the printer with nothing else attached.

Is there any other replacable part that this could possibly be?

The product you have is a commercial printer. I suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.
