What printer are you using? The instructions would vary based on the printer you have.
Thanks

Hi - Go ahead and unplug the power supply from the back of the printer and the outlet. Open the top cover and slide the carriage (if it slides freely) to the center of the printer. Wait 60 seconds and plug the power supply back into the outlet and printer, close the top cover and see if that resolves the problem.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that reply. I was able to move the carraige, I turned it on and heard it go through its setup. It went through the printing motion but it does not print anything legible. I believe the cable running on the pulley has been damaged. There appears to be an area of about 3/4" that is not in tact. The printer is 8years old. Is it fixable or do I scrap it?
Thanks again
Pat

Hi Pat - If there is damage to the pulley, you're probably better off scrapping the printer (my opinion). With the low prices on new printers, along with better features and improved print quality, it probably wouldn't be worth it to try and fix this one.
With that said, if it is printing, just nothing legible, it could be another problem. You might try disconnecting the cable that runs from the computer to the printer and reconnecting it on both ends. Sometimes a bad connection or bad cable can result in the printer printing out completely illegible text.
Hope that helps.

Hi - What is the problem you're having with the printer? Is it a carriage jam as indicated earlier in this thread? Are you getting flashing lights or an error message?

It's an error message.
