printing labels and business cards on J4580

I just bought a new All in One printer to replace my old 10 year old printer.   I am so frustrated because the labels and business cards to not print in the spots they are supposed to!!   With the Avery 30 on a page labels, it starts out fine, but the printing creeps up and up, so that by the 3rd row it is skewed.  Same with the business cards.   Never had a problem with the old HP inkjet.   I have all my printing on Printmaster Gold.

HELP!!   I need this for my home business.

same problem: 2 different models

5550 inkjet, several years old, has been on three XP computers, latest XP service pack3, LPT1 port; has been also on USB ports.  Creeping is very slight, but on Avery 8160/5160 template in WordPerfect 12, the amount is enough to put the top line out of label boundary on the last line of labels (letter size paper, 10 rows of labels). I have worked around it by injecting a negative leading amount in the 1st lines of addresses on the first line of labels, which carries through the page, and makes the last labels just fit.

ADDITIONAL software:  NetStamp label blanks from STAMPS.COM; printing the 2-dimensional bar code and amount of stamp, this creeps up into the fluorescent band on the stamp blank, bottom row of stamps.  I have not been reprimanded yet by the USPS.

NOW comes model 4360:

4360  Bought from Staples about a month ago. on XP service pack 3, USB port

Problem is UNACCEPTABLE. On NetStamps, creeping produces printing about 7-8 mm. too high on the bottom row of stamps, up into the next row.  I had to send in the stamps for a refund as unusable.

On mailing labels  NCR 903178, creeping on bottom row is UNACCEPTABLE.

On Hallmark Card Studio, special edition, 5,0,0,6 (sic) (their version numbering) one rectangular object should have a margin of about 1cm on the short side of letter size paper, but comes out with NO margin, and bleeds off edge.  The HP preview screen shows that this will be how it will be printed.

The 4360 so far is good for only plain correspondence letters on letter size paper, where creep is not noticeable because there are no calibration marks.  Have not tried headers and footers in word processors.  Also I am using Open Office suite from Sun Microsystems.  Same effect.

 By the way (old-fashioned no abbreviations--I am too old)  I am eighty (80) years old, have been writing software for a career or pro bono efforts since 1956 (fifty-three [53] years), mostly in the military, so I  have come across a LOT of software problems.  This is an HP software problem, I believe.

Okay, I have a different printer (F2430), however, WAS having the same kind of issues. After much playing, I finally just started printing the CURRENT document. Meaning, I just printed what I saw on the screen or in the print preview. I have WordPerfect12. While in the document, I simply go to the print button that 'prints the current document'. I don't go to 'print preferences' or anything else.  I also have Avery Design Pro.  In there, I go to print preview, then I select setup. On the first menu it gives you options on what you want to print...  All, Current, Master, Selected... I chose Current, and then printed.  Again, it simply printed what I was looking at on the screen.  My assumption is that most programs allow you to print different areas, i.e. selected text, all, etc...  Maybe, just select to print the current document, and see what happens.

Stamps.com Tech Support has found that in certain cases, the installation of a "legacy" reference driver (such as the HP DeskJet 990c driver) will resolve printing errors such as this example for HP printer customers.

The "legacy" reference driver has proven to be a time-worn solution since it is a more basic form of communication between the Stamps.com software and the printer.  Even though the HP DeskJet 990c printer driver is years old, Stamps.com Tech Support has had great success in solving printing problems with even the newest HP deskjet printers (including OfficeJet All-In-Ones).

This business card sheet printing problem is well known and there are many proposed solutions (ie stamps.com suggesting using an older driver) that are pretty poor if you purchased a new printer or all in one and it will not print correctly.  Why spend your money on a new printer that doesn't work with but with old software which may or may not still be around.

A big FAIL to HP. Supposedly the Printer Experts are around on 4-20 and 4-21 but I doubt they have a solution other than to blame Avery business card sheets.
