"Carriage Jam" message won't clear despite no paper jams

Purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless printer today. Set up all went well. Printed set up pages not problem. Went to print an email and now have permanent "carriage jam" message. Have completed all steps in help section (found no paper jams) and still have the message! SO FRUSTRATED! Can anyone help please?

[ Edited ]

A carriage jam is different than a paper jam.  The carriage is the mechanism that holds the printheads and moves back and forth across the page.  A carriage jam may indicate the carriage is blocked from moving of that there is a problem with the position sensor for the carriage.  Try the solutions shown here
