Re: refilled cartridges

You could try cleaning the electrical contacts on the cartridge as well as the carriage(the slot where the cartridge is inserted into) and checking if it recognizes it. If it doesnt, then unplug the power cable from the surge protector\power strip\wall socket while the printer is on, wait for 30 secs, and reinsert the cable into the wall socket only.

Also, while you're doing all this, make sure the printer is connected to the PC, cos the HP Solution Center\HP Director software will show messages of exactly what is wrong with the printer\cartridges. This can make the difference.

Re: refilled cartridges

HP will also refurbish the cartridge on an environmental friendly way, the only thing is that the ink distribution system needs to be new in every new cartridge cycle, this means that if you refill a cartridge the hairfine distribution channels inside the cartridge could be clogged.

Therefore HP recommends new cartridges, they have a perfect new ink distribution system and therefore it will not spill ink in your printer or at your desk etc...

In every way HP cartridges are cheaper than buying refilled cartridges because it will increase your printer live time , My 970 CXI has 75.000 pages print and is 10 years old, still working.

Re: refilled cartridges

I just bought an expensive HP laptop not even a year ago that crashed and burned, my printer way sucks too.  I'm convinced never to buy HP again. There is no reason that HP should make it so you can't use refills. I talked to customer service and they said they did that on purpose because my $80.00 printer is under warranty for a year.  I decided by all the ink I go through I could have bought a nice printer. Plus it isn't even environmentally friendly to go through ink cartridges that fast. HP is a crap - NEVER EVER again. I have gone through HP product way faster then any other company I have tried. I have told all my friends not to make the same mistake I did.

Re: refilled cartridges

The above comment is definitely someone from the HP company, trying to save their ass on how bad they know their products are. Maybe HP made good printers 10 years ago, but they sure as hell don't do it now. I have never been so frustrated with my purchase.

Re: refilled cartridges

I have HP Deskjet D1560 printer. I refilled tri-color cartridge 22. It worked quite satisfactorily except blue color. I thought blue color which I injected in the cartridge is insufficient so I injected some more color in the cartridge. After injecting more color I reinstalled the cartridge in the printer. But the printer does not indicate its existence and also stop working. If I remove this tri-color cartridge the printer start working satisfactorily with one cartridge i.e. black color cartridge 2. Please advise......Beg

Re: refilled cartridges

It is obvious why Hp does not allow you to refill your cartridges with ease ( Money is the factor here !) If they were to allow you to refill your ink freely how would they make a buck lol.  Yes technology is so far advanced that Im sure they could make so simple for you to do. Once again money!  Im pretty sure Im going to switch brands emediatley to a much more friendly printer that allows me to make decisions freely.  The problem with the computer world is that every company want you to do things their way, and In my case I like to think outside the box!

Re: refilled cartridges

I had my HPC5240 ink cartridges filled at Cosco today and now the printer says the "cartridge on the left is not intended for use on this computer."  It is the same cartridge I removed 2 hours ago!  The black ink seems to be fine, it is the color that is the problem.  I have unplugged the printer, removed the cartridges and it hasn't helped.  Any suggestions??

Re: refilled cartridges

[ Edited ]

From the POV of an increasinglyfrustrated bystander in the same boat as the originator of this thread, the "conclusion" to which you're allegedly jumping, IMHO, is "no way, no how will our printers accept refilled cartridges and if such a cartridge trashes your HP printer, you better be ready to part with some cash."

And, as anyone who has responded to a forum/chat post should know, in such a communication medium as this, when you're typing your side of a conversation, the reader(s) can't read your body language or hear the tone of your voice. Again, IMHO, as a representative of a major company, your response DID come across as rude. A preamble so simple as "I'm sorry you're having problems with your HP product" before you broke the bad news would have been much, much more appropriate. (Now I'll show my age) But that's a lot of the problem now. Empathy and tact are quickly vanishing qualities in modern customer "service." Way too many folks are way too self-absorbed and too preoccupied with their own little bubble to give a flying frig about anyone else, much less about the very ones who help pay the bills. The customer is NOT always right, but you **bleep** well better treat them like they are. Anyone who doesn't believe that is stupid, arrogant and full of {language filter evasion Removed}. That's nearly 40 years of face-to-face customer service experience talking.

Having said all that.....

I've dealt with HP Support on many occasions as a repair tech and, without going into all the gory details, I'll just say I seldom had a "pleasant" experience with any of them, even when they spoke a coherent form of English. I've also seen many exact statements as the one in your reply proved 100% wrong by someone higher up in your company who thought in terms of possibility rather than in terms of "Nope. Can't be done. Tough stuff, bud!"

I, too, find it greedy and irresponsible in these pitiful temporal, economical and environmental states of affairs that HP's printers are built with such proprietary rigidity. Most other brands are pretty laid back in their attitudes towards refurb/refilled cartridges. My 3 yo OfficeJet 6310 is persnickety about even brand new cartridges, color in particular. I became disgusted with its new habit of blowing through color cartridges every other week when I am printing only text and b&w web pages. Granted I didn't set it for black only. So, like a fool, I went out and bought a DeskJet 1000. It will not print envelopes! The 6310 won't either. It jams every. single. time I try to print an envelope.

In desperation, just to get the 6310 semi-useable, I bought a refurb black ink cartridge after I put yet another color cartridge in. It printed 45 pages of black text flawlessly. After the last page the 6310 flipped me off and has ever since said "Cartridge Error. Cartridge on right must be replaced," the cartridge on the right naturally being the black cartridge.

I said earlier that I was an "increasingly frustrated" bystander. After having to explain to you how to be an at least barely proficient customer service rep, now I'm pissed off. If I can't resolve this issue, then this hunk of junk is headed to the recycle center and I'll never, ever, ever again buy another HP product. I'm sure that doesn't matter to "techs" like you but you'll piss enough of us off and HP will fall by the wayside just like all the others that have forgotten who the real boss is.
