I had a similiar problem. I have a C7180 Photosmart that will not print when one cartride expires so I had to go buy that cartridge even though there was plenty of ink remaining. I have done this several times and really was not very happy that I could not even print in black. Most of my cartridges still have plenty of ink but I can't use them. I just gave up after trying every solution I could find.and bought a Kodak Photo Printer. The ink last a lot longer and is also less expense to purchase. It also does an excellent job of printing my text and photos. Oh, I still use the HP for scanning and faxing but not printing. Maybe this will alert HP that the next trick to pull on customers (ex-customers) is to make the scanner inoperative when the ink has expired. That will really fix us? If you ever find a way to turn off memory chip please post on the web. Good Luck!

Hi,
You could try cleaning the printhead and also the printer carriage contacts
That work, or still seeing the error?
