After much observation I noticed the carridge does not move far enough to the right to trip a switch arm on that side. I can't manually move carridge to the right unless I push front of carridge down. There is no way the carriage can move to switch unless I do this.
This has got to be it. Is there a alignment screw or something. After nine hours trying to get this going this is my best guess. If I'm right I hope my pain helps someone out there.
Please respond in a timely manner because I'm about ready to throw this baby in the lake.
Thank you

I am having the exact same problem. I have done all the diagnostic tests suggested in the films several times. The carriage used to move to the middle when I would open the ink cartridge access door....now it does not move. the carriage will move freely to the left and the right and there is nothing blocking the cable. Over and over and over I have done these tests.
The printer does make those 3 bumping sounds and the error message 0x610000f6 comes on again

I am ready to meet you at the lake. I have had this HP officejet 6500a for a year as of 2/8 (now out of warranty)and I have never had a problem before. I hope someone can help us fast. I really can't afford to replace it at this time. Susan c.
