Is it possible that the font specified in the document is not available to the printer, and the small numbers are asterisks in the substitution font?
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

What size font is used? It may be too small for the printer to print. Try increasing the font size on one of the numbers and see if it prints. You can also try changing the font. If it is not a default Windows font, then the device may not be able to find a substitute that matches it and prints the asterisk instead.
Also, what application are you printing from?
