Hello NoeIE
Is your printer the Photosmart or the Deskjet 2410. If you have not already I suggest trying the following article. It may resolve your issue.

Working through the HP diagnostics of the article recommended, in no case does the setup key have any effect. The message is always the same, carriage jam, open door etc. The cartridge head is at the far right and can only move freely about 2 inches to the left when it hits a stop. I believe that something was either damaged or gotten out of sync when I had to pull the paper out that was wrapped around the feed rollers. The unit is out of warranty and although I don't think anything is broken, repair/exchange may cost more than the unit is worth.

Hello NoelE
Lets try this. With the power turned on open the printer. Does the carriage move to the center? If so disconnect power while it is in the middle and see if it will move freely. Hopefully we can figure out a resolution.

Tried suggestion, same result, print heads will not move past a block . They are on the right and only move about 2 inches before hitting a block.

Hi NoelE,
When you open the front access door, and you indicate it hits a block is this some foreign material in the path of the print mechanism?

No, no foreign body, some internal mechanical object.
