All-in-one j6480 using linux, problems when updating kernel

I have an opensuse 11.0 linux platform (printer was working fine before updating ) and updated the linux kernel and lost the printer connection, printer is the All-in-one hpj6480, then updated to hplip 3.9.2

using auto-install in terminal, installed latest driver hplip 3.9.2, then checking installed software packages displays old version hplip 2.8.4, printer currently works as a direct USB connect but not wireless

other than the obvious question how to fix this problem ...  what is the basic logic map for installing the printer  ( ie ...  direct USB connect--wired network--wireless ) or install completely as wireless?  ... Should I completely uninstall the printer and drivers from the system then re-install as a fresh system ... And are there associated lib files that would need to removed from the old 2.8 and 2.10 driver?

Re: All-in-one j6480 using linux, problems when updating kernel SOLVED

It turns out that the hplip needed to be reinstalled .. but what also compounded the issue was that the firewall needed to be removed for complete installation .. thank you for all your help
