C6280 becomes tombstone

Installed & uninstalled software numerous times, tried six different USB ports and cables. Downloaded software and drivers direct from HP. Using Windows XP

Professional. Message received after install is "unknown USB device". Help please!!!

C6280 is an All-in-One, so this makes trouble shooting a little easier.

 

I would first make sure the device is OK, can you make copies? Does it print from memory cards? You don't need usb cables for these functions. If none of these work, then the device is really dead.

 

If the device works, then I would check the usb cable first, does this cable work with other usb devices? If the usb cable is good, then check the connection, was the other side (printer side) plugged into the usb connector ont he device?
