C6380 wireless install finds printer but won't connect

I have tried to install the C6380 countless times on my laptop running XP sp3.  I have installed it successfully on my desktop with Vista.  During the install it finds the printer with the correct ip address.  However, when it tries to connect it hangs up and then fails with a great big red x.   The installation finishes installing all of the rest of the software.  When I reboot the laptop it pulls up an error screen that the specified port is unknown.  It also has another error that the Generic process server has encountered an error.  I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, cleaning, shutting off/on countless devices all with no success.

I need help before my wife throws the printer out the window and me along with it.

Have you enabled 'printer sharing' on both computers?

Re: C6380 wireless install finds printer but won't connect

I found the solution to my problem.  I had to delete the printer spooler and driver files and edit the registry.  Apparently, there was a conflict with some old drivers from other printers I had installed.  As soon as I did that the installation went through without problem.  I hope this helps other people having installation problems.
