C7280 Installation Error: The specified service does not exist as an installed service

How can I fix this with a Photosmart 6300  and NO disk, just the downloaded driver package?

Your excellent instructions fixed my 6~7 month long wireless connection problem.

Had zero problems when installed for the first time. Had computer problems and had to reload Windows XP and all programs I had installed. Everything except the printer went back without a hitch.

Tried to get HP to help, but the sorry A-holes wouldn't without a "minimum $35 fee".

I wasn't about to pay them nothing! I felt like they should have to pay me!

I'll say one thing, I used to specify to always buy HP printers... didn't want nothing else.

But now after seeing how their support is....

I am very reluctant to buy another!

I am forever in your debt.  I had spent over 8 hours on the phone with what I thought was technical support.   Two different people remotely accessed my computer and tried the same solutions over and over again till I thought I would lose my mind.  Finally, I was told that they were sending an email to TECHNICAL SUPPORT and that I would receive a response in 36 to 48 hours.  I did a search on google and up popped your solution.  Two minutes later the installation was complete and ready to rock and roll.

Trying to install my HP 6500, I had the "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" message. When I looked, the HP Network Device Support is not in my list of services. Then I went the the install CD and Uninstalled, then reinstalled the HP Network Device Support and  it did not install.  I was stuck, kept getting the same message!

Then I found a way to get around this problem.

I had another printer install to do, a Photosmart printer for which had a CD,

When I finished installing the Photosmart printer, the HP Network Device Support was in the list of services and then the HP 6500 wireless installed successfully. Apparently the Photosmart CD sucessfully installed the HP Network Device support!!

I am attempting to install a Photosmart B110b wirelessly to thmy old pavilion 9410us running Vista.  I first got the "specified service doesn't exist as an installed service"  I applied Dexter's steps and got the  Network services running.  I then ran the Add a Device option from the installation CD.  I was so excited that it actually found the printer.  Then it had a Fatal Error during installation with the message: C:\Program Files\Hp\Digital Imaging {59C83C08-63F4-4AEC-81D6-392C5E23B8..} The online solution says to "uninstall and reinstall the software."  I did that and I'm back to the service doesn not exist as an installed service.  Any suggestions?

Wow, Thanks. I've been trying to get my Officejet 6500 reinstalled for 2 days now. Without going into great detail, I have a laptop running XP SP3 and had originally succesfully installed my printer. Then one day for no reason it dissapeared from my Printers and Faxes list. I tried to reinstall but got the "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" message. I tried the FAQ and the forums, and even called HP with no luck. I could ping the printer and load it's web page but couldn't get it installed. HP told me to call my PC manufacturer because we couldn't get the HP services to start (1053 error). Ya, right... like Lenovo's gonna have a clue.

Finally I tried your method of installing from the "Printers and Faxes" listing and it worked. Thanks a lot!
