I have a networked CM1415fn Color LaserJet operating with Windows 7. It was working perfectly fine until I tried to install the latest firmware update from HP dated 16 Feb 2012. During the installation step, the process froze about half way through. Now I have no printer. I tried to rectify the situation by first trying to reinitialize the install process. Frozen. Would not reinitialize. I tried to load the firmware directly to to USB terminal, first of course removing the ethernet. No success. I uninstalled the software, but then could not reinstall the software because the network does not 'see' the printer. So, I'm dead in the water. The help desk is no help because their equipment processing credit cards is down, and they will not help me without payment first. I need some advise as to how to install the new firmware so the network can see the printer, and I can reinstall the software.
Thanks,
AC Falk

Dear 8lives:
Thanks very much for your response.
The answer to your question is 'no'. This printer does not respond to any command from the outside, but it does say on the screen, "Ready 2 Download". I've tried this in various ways from my desktop to no avail. I've tried it from a laptop running XP to no avail. There must be some way to force the firmware into the printer through one of the USB ports (forward or back), but this old man can't figure it out. What really angers me is that the printer was working just fine until I tried to install their 'update'.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have.
AC Falk

AC, have you tried to power off the printer? (disconnect power cord)

Ok, let's try to do a NVRAM init.
This will reset all factory default values.
Take note of the right arrow button on the display.
Turn off the printer.
With the printer off press the right arrow button and hold it down as you power up the printer.
When Permanent storage init. appears on the display release the right arrow button.
If everything goes ok then the display will return to Ready.

You mean the "Ready 2 Download" appears even as you are holding down the right arrow key?
