i have a PhotoSmart C6280 connected to a LG X110 operating Windows XP. Printer is connected to router via ethernet cable and computer uses a wireless connection to the router.
C6280 was BEST printer i ever owned. It worked fine at the start in late 2009. At least 2 other computers were connected to it on the network. By the summer of 2011, every time I sent a print job, I got an error message about missing files. I don't recall the file names. I updated the drivers, uninstalled, re-installed but no change. At first, i could just ignore the message and carry on, but by the fall it became difficult to get it to print. NO problems occurred with any other computers trying to use the same printer. At the same time, my computer became increasingly slower and it became almost impossible to do anything. Finally I replaced the C6280 with another printer. (NOT an HP!!!!). I tried to uninstall and remove the HP drivers, but this seemed impossible. I deleted files and folders that seemed to have any connection to HP. When i finally purged most of the HP files manually, all my other computer problems disappeared as well. My new printer has worked well, although I still preferred the C6280 IF IT WORKED.
Today I decided to install it again. I ran every cleaning and "tune-up" program I had plus "Disk Cleanup" and "Defrag". I downloaded the latest HP software and followed the on-screen instructions. When it finished installing i got an error message regarding a missing TrayApp file. Just like before, but a different file. If I ignored the file, i could print. I got an "HP Installation Error" message with a program that supposedly contained a fix for my problem. I ran it and uninstalled and reinstalled. This got rid of the "TrayApp" error but it was replaced by a similar "Market Research" error. I have spent this entire day uninstalling, reinstalling and receiving new versions of the "HP Installation Error". Now I have reached a point where the installation program tells me it can't complete the installation. AS before, the C6280 works fine with other computers connected to the same network.
AS I said before, I really liked that printer WHEN IT WORKED with my computer and would like to use it again. Unless this problem gets solved, i will NEVER purchase another HP printer or recommend such a purchase to anyone else.

Hi knotahappycampe,
From what you are describing it works on the other computer except your computer which is an indication that there may be an issue within the operating system which is contributing to the installation issues. Below are some scrub steps you can follow to see if this will clean out the HP files, and then reinstall the printer using the newest software from the website. If you still continue to experience issues with only this computer you may want to consider backing up your data, and then run a full system recovery on the system.
Try using the scrubber built into the CD or Download.
From Original installation CD:
1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

I GIVE UP!!
I had to run the second option and download and extract the software. There were 4 7z folders. I opened all 4 and sub-folders and found the L4uninstall in the last one. After running it there was still a “Hewlett Packard” folder on my C: drive. It was empty and did not exist before attempting your instructions. I manually deleted it before attempting to re-install the print drivers. The latest driver that I downloaded is the same version as I have used on my last few attempts.
I installed this new driver. At the end of the installation, I get an error message PSSWCORE “…Program required for this install to complete cannot be found.” I had to use <CTRL> <ALT> <DELETE> to get rid of that. I am currently using L4Uninstall to get rid of HP for good.

Hi knotahappycampe,
It possible that the operating system is playing a part in the installation failure.
What happens if you install the printer on a different computer?

I have already responded regarding the other computer. I have it installed and operating on an Acer Netbook with Windows 7.
With respect to attempting to uninstall with L4, after the Uninstall was complete, I checked my C: drive and the HP folder with levels of sub-folders is still there. i will attempt to delete them manually AGAIN.

Hi knotahappycampe,
It appears that there is something in the operating system which is contributing to the installation failure. Have you considered backing up your data, and do a full system recovery on this computer?
