Trying to install OfficeJet 6500 Wireless with a Compaq laptop running Windows 7. For now, trying to install with a USB cable instead of wireless. When Install program tells to plug in USB cable, I plug in the USB cable and the laptop then makes the audible noise that is made whenever a USB device has been plugged in. But the Install software just sits there as if the USB cable has not been plugged in. So I unplug the USB cable, the laptop makes the audible sound made when a USB device is unplugged, I plug the USB cable again and the laptop make the audible sound made when a USB device is plugged in. But the printer Install sofware never responds when the USB cable is plugged or unplugged. What to do so that Install software responds when the USB cable is plugged in?

Couple of things to check:
First, check the Devices and Printers folder, see if your printer is in there, if so delete it. Make sure the USB cable is not connected when you do this. Restart the computer.
Second, disable any security (anti-virus/malware/firewall) software. Then try reinstalling the printer. Do not connect the USB cable until directed to do so.
