Cannot reinstall software for HP Photosmart on Windows XP

I have the HP Photomsmart C4580 connected via USB to a Windows XP laptop.   

I was having trouble scanning documents - was getting an error.   

I decided to uninstall the software and reinstall it to try to fix the problem.

When I try to reinstall the software, i get a message that says that the software is already installed and does not give me an option to reinstall.

When I look for the shortcut to run the software, it is no longer available - since I unistalled it.

Now i am stuck.

How can I force a resinstall of the software -- even though the installation software "thinks" that the software is already installed?

I'm using the software I downloaded from HP:  PS_AIO_04_C4500_USW_Full_Win_enu_120_210_NB.exe

'Add and Remove' wont let me unistall, how did you do the uninstall ?

Will then probably need to reinstall, so maybe will be able to help answer your original question... hopefully.

Hi mrflkl,

Lets try running the scrubber from the steps below. Let me know what you find out?

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Once the computer is restarted type %temp% in the run field

8. Run the Setup.exe file to reinstall the printer.

I simply uninstalled anything that appeared to be HP software using the control panel add/remove programs.

someone else commented on this thread on how to do a clean uninstall which is helpful.
