Cartridge holder doesn't slide out HP CN503B Photosmart Premium [ Edited ]

Hi

I just received a HP CN503B Photosmart Premium from Amazon.

I removed all the plastic protective covering, powered the printer, selected my language on the touch screen. Now it tells me to install the cartridges.

However when I open the access door, nothing happens. I would expect the cartridge holder to slide along so I can put them in.

If I turn the printer on whilst the access door is open, the motors are all working, the cartridge head moves back and forth and finishes on the right hand side under the lid.  On the screen it says ERROR Close the access door to continue. I close the door and nothing happens, this message remains.

What could be going wrong here? Do I need to get it sent back to be replaced? Could it be that some sensor to do with detecting the door open/close isn't working properly?
