Driver Install Issues to Utilize both a C5580 and C4385

HP expert,

I have a question associated with my C5580 all in one.  I am using Windows 7 Home (64 bit). Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I also have a C4385 all in one and I am unable to load drivers for both products.  To enable all functionality of one, of must remove all drivers and reload the drivers specific to the that one.  When attempting to load drivers for one of the printers when the other drivers are NOT removed first, I end up in an endless loop as the driver install routine indicates a fatal error, clicking OK then automatically reboots the PC and upon reboot I end up back in the install program with the fatal error message...and clicking OK repeats the cycle.  I would like to use both of my HP printers -- dending on where I am working -- but currently I am forced to pick one.  Please advise.  Thanks.

Re: Driver Install Issues to Utilize both a C5580 and C4385

Hi there,

How are you trying to connect to these printer?  USB?

If you are using USB then both printers have the drivers built into the OS and so plugging them in should give you simple print and scanning.

Please reply with more information about your setup and configuration

I am connecting via USB.  I would settle for simply printing and scanning.  Unfortunately, when I plug my USB into the C4385 and attempt to print, nothing happens.  Additionally, I cannot find it in my printer devices (whereas I see the other printer, C5580).

When the C4385 is plugged in to check that it shows up in Device Manager on your PC, this will show that you do not have a hardware problem.

Does windows try and Plug and Play the device or does it say device not recognised?

Re: Driver Install Issues to Utilize both a C5580 and C4385

When connecting my USB to my C4385, the drivers attempts to install automatically.  However, after a minute or so I receive the error message indicating that the drivers were NOT successfully installed.  I can, however, print.  When I attempt to scan though the message on the printer reads that the USB or wireless not connected...when it is.

Device manage shows this device but has the yellow caution sign next to it.  On the general tab in the device status box it reads: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28).

Re: Driver Install Issues to Utilize both a C5580 and C4385

I would recommend letting windows try and find drivers for this device via windows update and see what happens.

Windows 7 should have drivers availible for this device without the need to download anything from HP.

Good luck

Re: Driver Install Issues to Utilize both a C5580 and C4385

Thanks Jon, I'll try the Window's drivers route.  Would you be able to assist me with another question related to my C5580?  This one involves turning it on.

In short, my c5580 never turns on properly.  Generally i receive an error code (b8000198).  Howevever, often it will also either freeze in the 'turn on mode' as in I see the HP logo on the read-out but it never gets to the main menu (that lists the options such as copy, photo, scan, and reprints).  I generally finally get it to "boot" propererly after unplugging the cord from the back of the device, unplugging the brick and unplugging the power supply to the wall.  If I do this 2-3 times it generally boots to the main menu and eventually works fine.  However, sometimes it will being flashing multiple lights (the orange one to the right of the "OK" button, print photos and red eye removal lights and the power on/off lights).  Again, if I unplug and reconnect several times I generally get it to work.

Note, this is a used printer.  I read that I should verify I have the correct power supply (as in the same number on the power brick that is also listed in the instructions).  I downloaded the instructions and I cannot find any mention of the power supply number.

Re: Driver Install Issues to Utilize both a C5580 and C4385

I am sorry, I dont have a great deal of hardware knowledge.

I am not sure what color the power socket is but that is the real thing you need to match and then the current output of that power supply.

You could also look up the hp parts warehouse (www.partsurfer.hp.com) and see if they have any power supply specs.

Good luck
