Failed installation of software for C309g

I cannot successfully load the software using either the cd or the download from HP support. It goes through all of the steps until, while finishing the configuration, I get the following message  and then it "recovers", requiring a restart, by uninstalling all that was installed

FATAL INSTALLATION ERROR"   C:\users\lakesho~1\appdata\local\temp\7z54691\hpzsetup.exe"

This is for a wireless setup on a new DELL 3GHz , WIN 7, 64 bit machine with a dual core intel processor

Tech support (an hour each time), using their script in New Delhi, wants to walk me through the installation (already failed numerous times) and not deal with the error

I also have been unable to email tech support because the serial number and product code that the detection applet comes up with for my printer does not pass the warranty status screen to get to email - "please enter a correct serial number" This despite it alledgedly being fixed by HP twice

Despite the failed installation, I am able to print. However when I try to open HP Solution Center, it tells me that the installation is not completed and to connect qa usb cable or reinstall?.  the software. Not being able to open solution center means I cannot scan from the desktop

Somebody (the forum moderator from HP?) should be able to give me a solution - please -  and thanks in advance

Re: Failed installation of software for C309g

This is the same problem I've got posted under "all in one nightmare" and you're right, HP technicians will walk you through a scripted attempt to delete and then reload the software with absolutely no different result.  After 3 attempts, and about 8 hours with them, the best thing they could come up with is it's a  Window's problem and to contact them.  They'll in turn tell you it's a HP problem.  It does seem it's a Windows 7 related problem, as it seems to be a common thread with anyone that posts a similar problem.  Any fix or patch that HP has related to Windows 7 doesn't fix this issue.  I'm dealing with a C510 printer, so it's not tied to one device.  I'm really disappointed with HP on this as it seems they've left us out to dry on this one.  My daughter's Lexmark printer fired right up without a glitch.  Gotta say, their concern over customer dissatisfaction is totally absent.  Will be my last HP products.  Currently both computer and printer are HP, but I've a feeling not for long!!  Hope you have better luck.  When it does load regardless of the fatal error message, it only works for a while and the next thing you'll experience is the printer will disappear from your listed devices and you get the pleasure of repeating the deletion and reloading process all over again.  Hope you have better luck.  I'll be watching your post along with mine.

Re: Failed installation of software for C309g

Thanks - I am fed up with calls to New Delhi and with sending email to the POP acct for HP customer service. They keep saying that my warranty status has been corrected but I cannot get by the warranty status check with the serial number that HP detect itself comes up with. And so I still cannot email tech support

I followed a circuitous path to get to a site that has "extreme" instructions for entering regedit and deleting the hp stuff, but it seems to have worked. i was able to finally get by the problem with the .......hz7 stuff that prevented a successful install and have now managed to do so. I saved the Chrome pages that got me there . I listed them below but they are specific to my machine cause I downloaded them. I think if you strip off the machine specifc folder info you might be able to get to where I was when I saved the info - worth a try.
