Thanks! I have not tried those steps involving removing the cartridges yet. I'll certainly give this a try as soon as I have some time for it. Hopefully this will take care of this very frustrating problem.

Thanks for your potential solution. I went through the steps involving removing the ink cartridges and the printhead, actually twice. The general print error 0x61000f6 is still there and now the printer cannot complete the alignment. It was worth a try. I give up. This is the first HP Photosmart printer I have had and it makes the best prints when it is working, but I have never had a printer that has had so many quirks and problems as this one. When I had the printhead out I noticed that there is a lot of ink globbed up inside it. I cleaned some of it up but couldn't get to all of it or figure out how to clean it out. I don't know if it is worth having it serviced or not. Don't know how much that would cost nor who to take it to and if it would even work when they got done. I am going to try another HP printer (HP Photosmart 7510) that I recently bought.

Went through the steps in the article presented here. After reinstalling the ink cartridges, in the midst of realignment, the c309n spontaneously shut down and will not restart. I am now quite frustrated. Suggestions for an out of warranty printer?
