HELP! Windows XP Fails To Boot After Install of HP Officejet 8500 Printer

I have a brand new HP computer with Windows XP.  I followed the instructions to install the HP Officejet 8500.  When I installed the software from the CD using the wizard, the process encountered an error somewhere along the way and said it wanted to report it to HP.  HP returned some file to my desktop and the installer went into some clean-up and recovery mode.  The installer completed and said it needed to restart to complete the installation.  After selecting "Finish" to restart my computer, I have not been able to get Windows to boot up again.  Every safe mode I attempt to take just loops back around to the same screen.  What do I do?

Please say I won't lose everything on my harddrive!

Have you tried rebooting the PC without the installation CD?

Yes, I've tried both with and without the installation CD numerous times.  My friend somehow ran a chkdsk on c: and it returned 'unrecoverable
errors' which indicates the entire device is corrupt.   He told me to call support but frankly I have no idea who to call for support HP, Windows, or Intuit (it was part of a POS bundle system).

Contact your PC vendor. They should be able to help you. Usually, the tech support contact number will be mentioned on the tower.

I guess that would be Intuit since I bought their Quickbook POS w/ HP bundle.

Re: HELP! Windows XP Fails To Boot After Install of HP Officejet 8500 Printer

The computer was never really hooked up to the printer with the USB.  During the install, I had first thought the printer was Wireless so I took that path. When I was trying to figure out the wireless set up on the printer, I learned that it was not wireless afterall and instead connected the printer by an ethernet cable to my network.  About that time, the installation wizard gave an error and the rest is as I described above.
