I have tried many times to install software for the HP 8600. When I bought it and used the disk, it worked perfectly for abuot a week. Then it said the tray was out of paper , when it was not, and would not print. It would copy using the same paper tray, but not print.
I downloaded new drivers, uninstalled the old one and tried to reinstall several times. Each time I get the following reply:
"The software required for your printer could not be installed"
The details were:"Error 3: Filed to copy port monitor files"
I have scanned for malware, tried to clean all the files and still will not install. How to resolve?

Westcap,
According to another member on the Forum,
this will clear out a lingering issue and you can then reinstall your printer software and try again:
Microsoft Cleanup Utility -- fileanswer.com
I would add to this (after the cleanout), a printer reset - if you like - to shake out the cobwebs and put the bits all back in order:
--------------------------------------------------
Reset the printer
Here are two kinds:
1) If there is a keypad, turn it off, then on and press # and 6 (keep pressed while turning on printer).
2) No keypad? Unplug while on, leave unplugged 30 seconds to a minute. Plug back in. (Be careful with this one - don't risk shock.)
--------------------------------------------------
Then, reinstall the Printer Software.
I hope this helps!

I downloaded and tried to install drivers for HP 8600 model N911a. That would n ot install. Someone said I should try the N911g or n, depending on the model number of my printer. However, I cannot find any numbers on my printer that corespond to that. Here are some relevant numbers:
Reg Model number
NPRC-1101-01
Prod #:CM749A
Serial Number:{Removed for privacy}
So what model do I have?
BTW, I have tried many times to install the MS cleanup utility and it won't install. The error message is:
Line:17
Char:1
Error
ermission denied
Code:800A0046
Source:Microspft VBScript run time error
What next?

Westcap,
The little MS cleanup utitlity might have worked if it would install. No worries.
Our own forum Expert, PcWizard, has an appropriate method for extracting the existing printer software from your system. It uses the printer's software own program's to do the job. If you have "bits" left from a previous installation, this method is the preferred method for getting the leftovers removed.

Re: Can't load drivers and software, can't delete current drivers HP universal drivers
I will put in a request for someone to take a look at this for you.
I hope this helps!

Westcap2,
If you are still wondering...
You really do have the 911a printer. I don't know where it might be printed ON that printer, but the product numbers don't lie. Smiling.
The printer software at your printer's website is the printer software for your printer.
Once you get the old software out of the computer, you may have found that the software would have installed correctly. If so, great.
If the software did not yet install, here are a couple of "try this" tips that I can think of that MAY help:
- Make sure that you have not inadvertantly changed something on the router side, ie., MAC filtering.
- Here's a weird one, that might work - save it for a last resort, but don't discount it entirely: try a new / different SSID assignment / name. Same rules for the network, just a different name....
- If you are using wireless installation, give up and install using the wired installation, then switch to wireless.
- Disconnect the other (second tray).
- Suspect your computer of file system corruption. This is another one of those "save this one for last resort" type of things, but don't entirely discount it. The printing file system, is interdependent on dozens of files, not all of which are located directly the printing software hierarchy. When all else fails to bring joy, run "sfc /scannow" on the file system to make sure it's healthy.
Good Luck!
I hope this helps!
