HP C310 Photosmart Premium All-in-One taking forever to print via USB

HP C310 Photosmart Premium All-in-One is taking forever to print via USB. Previously it printed fine via wireless, but recently we've had to change to USB. It shows up as installed, and uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers didn't work. Unplugging and replugging didn't work, nor did restarting the printer and computer (Windows XP). Basically what happens is that when a document is sent to be printed, it shows up as document pending. On the screen of the printer is "Now printing" with a red X on the right, and the circle in the middle keeps spinning. Sometimes the printer makes noises that seem like it's going to print, but nothing happens.

 

We did evenutally get a test page to print (it took over 15 minutes of spinning), but nothing else has worked. Please advise. Thanks!
