Hello...
I originally posted this issue in this forum a WEEK ago and got NOT response!! 
I'm hoping that some KIND HP EXPERT will help me with my issue indicated below....thank you!!

Hello...
I am using an HP Photosmart 2575 printer networked (wirelessly) through the wifi network in my home (AT&T UVerse wifi in the house). I recently upgraded my computer from a 6 year old Powerbook G4 running OSX 10.4.11 to a new MacBook Pro with OSX 10.7.2 Lion. I read and understood that Liion/Apple software update would provide me with the necessary setup and install drives for my HP printer and, when I went through the process of adding the printer, indeed the printer was recognized and everything was installed.
Problem is that the print quality and formatting/characters when I print is NOT good....it is "off." For instance, with a simple TextEdit document with an underlined title and few words below looking like this:

Item 2
Item 3
...would print with gaps in the underline formatting like this:

Also, the overall quality of the printed text is not good. There are jagged edges in the characters and some occasional lines through a full line of words. This occurs in BOTH "fast draft" and "best" quality settings.
I thought perhaps there was a problem with the printer so I cleaned the print heads and also adjusted the alignment of the printer. That didn't help. I then printed with my old Powerbook computer with the same print settings and BOTH the underline format was complete and correct at the top of the document AND the characters of the document were better quality with no lines through the characters.
These results lead me to believe there is either a communication issue and/or driver issue affecting the quality of my printing with my new computer and Lion. There is no way I should be experiencing such an unacceptable degradation of print quality with my computer and OSX upgrade. I have printed the same document with my old Powerbook using TextEdit and the document comes out FINE.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?? Is there a solution?? I am not sure if this is an HP Driver issue or printer compatibility issue or a TextEdit issue. I could not find a way to manually install the drivers as all information I have read said that driver install and update for OSX is through the Apple Software Update. I believe I have the original HP driver install CD when I bought the printer years ago but I doubt that the driver is up to date, let along OSX Lion compatible.
Any solution for this issue?? It is a MAJOR and unacceptable problem for me and I use TextEdit all the time!!!

First, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for replying to my issue. As you have read, I've been waiting a disappointing while...even THROUGH this "Expert Day(s)" that came and went...without one response
Anyway, I appreciate the links you provided even though in posting my question I was a bit "beyond" those preliminary type checks! Forgive me for posting my question and getting right to the point without mentioning that I had pretty much gone through the preliminary "troubleshooting checklist" and previously determined that my printer setup and settings were fine. That coupled with the fact that other software allow printing WITHOUT A PROBLEM (e.g., in Microsoft Word 2008) led me to believe that the issue was with HP and TextEdit in particular.
That being said, I DID look at the links and checked my settings once again!! I did not see anything wrong or out of the ordinary.
I did notice that there is an advanced "details" option in the print diaglogue box that I looked at. As you would expect, the details section has more "details" and options that the simpler hide-details print section. There the settings looked OK as well but there were some advanced settings that I chose NOT to fool around with...reason being I have NEVER gone "detailed" so there is nothing that I would have changed to cause my problems, and nothing that I would know how to change to try something out.

So we're back where I was....all preliminary settings seem correct...and I am CERTAIN that the printer works having printed out various Word docs without a problem. It appears the issue lies within TextEdit, HP and/or the communication between the devices.
Thoughts as to what to do next?? THANK YOU AGAIN for your (and anyone else's) time!!

Hey Stix4...thanks again for the reply.
I guess I'll head over to the Mac discussions boards but my fear is that they'll send me back here to HP tossing me around without any answer ...that's why I tried here first.
Anyway, I followed your link...bit of a broad search result from it and nothing really on point (and hopefully NOT solidifying my fears that the issue will be unaswered as well over at apple.com ) ...but I'll continue to look for a resolution over there.

Yeah, another thing I left out like with alllllll the preliminary stuff like checking print settings and printer install that ou initially directed me to check 
...but I tried pretty much everything associated with the print quality draft/best/photo and NOTHING fixed the issues I described.
I have not yet had the time to post to the Apple Discussions board but when I do and if I get a response, I'll reply back here.
