I'm trying to install a HP LaserJet 1018 onto my acer desktop with Windows Vista.
I tried both the 32 and 64bit but neither want to work.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

You need to use whichever driver matches your OS. If you have a 32 bit operating system load the 32 bit driver and vice versa. You can find your OS version in Start, Control Panel, System. Once you have determined the proper OS download the drivers from here for either the 32 bit or 64 bit drivers.
Do not plug the printer into the computer until instructed to do so by the installer. Run the downloaded program.
ASsuming you have done the above what happens? What error messages are you getting? If you get an error message when trying to download the driver see this page. You may have firewall settings that are blobking the FTP transfer, the link gives some workarounds.
