HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

Sorry, this is my second post on this topic. I keep getting paper jams in the main feed tray of my HP Laserjet 2600n. It won't pick up the sheets of paper so it never actually jams - it just stays in the printer tray. I make sure to put just the right amount of paper in but it won't always pick up the sheets. How can I get the paper tray to work properly?

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

Hi,

You could possibly be having an issue with the pickup roller itself, either dirty or damaged.  This may prevent it from gripping the page when the printer attempt to pull the page into the printer.

When you attempt to print, is the printer in a Ready state and does it sound like things are moving, just not picking up the sheet?   If so, then it is likely a pickup roller problem and you could try cleaning.  If a replacement roller is necessary, you can order those from the HP Parts Store at the following URL:

 http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=4F636A375ECD4543B71EF0778B1012AE

The pickup roller part number is:

RC1-5440-000CN

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. In response to your questions, the printer is in a Ready state and it does sound like there are things moving once it receives a print job (and that it is trying repeatedly to pick up a sheet of paper out of tray 2). However, it gives up after about three or four attempts and says there is a paper jam, and the warning has to be cleared by pulling the tray out and restarting the print job. There is no paper actually caught in the rollers.

How do you carry out cleaning of the pickup roller? I will try and clean it before ordering a new part. Also, if I order a new part, how easy is it for me to put it in myself?

Thanks again!

[ Edited ]

HP has a video that shows how to do this:

Just click on the topic "Removing and Replaceing parts"  Paper Pickup Roller and scroll down to view the animation.

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

Hi...I have same problem of  HP Laserjet 2600 indicating paper jam although there is not a jam...seems printer is making same noise and giving up.  I went to video to check paper roller and saw from the image that to the left of the paper roller is a white ring and to the left of that is a black plastic piece that houses a spring....this may be where my problem is....the spring is exposed and the black housing is not seated.  Can anyone inform me how to reseat these items? Thanks so much!

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

I have two working and one non-working HP printers. I am in need of some help. I have a Laserjet 2600n, a Photopro B8850 and a Photo smart 7510. How can you make sure that the most up to date drivers etc. are loaded and will automatically search and load these by the week? Also, I have a great B8850 that I am told it needs the circuit board and HP says they don't have it and it would cost more than the 7510. There is no comparison between the 7510 and the B8850.Does antone know about this and where one could locate this board as it is not available from HP.

If anyone can help with the installing of current drivers or where to find them safely. And, if anyone knows about that board please contact me.

Thank you,

Stevr,

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

Hello Cowboy123

The product you have is a commercial printer. I suggest posting in the HP Business Support forum for a better chance at finding answers to your questions.

You may find the Commercial Laserjet board here.

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

I read these posts, watched the video, and replaced the pickup roller with a new one. But I still get the Paper Jam in Tray 2 message, even though there is none. What is next step?

Re: HP Laserjet 2600n Frequent Paper Jams

Make sure the paper try is in all the way.  If it is being blocked from going in from the back because of a ledge or obstruction, even a slight not all the way in will give what you are getting.  I had this.  It is now resolved by moving the printer forward slightly.  Good luck
