Hiya,
I'm now on my second HP OJ Pro 8500 and most things work with the exception of scanning to a network folder or to email.
The printer is set up using the wireless connection and I can access the embedded webserver(EWS) fine.
The thing I'm struggling with are the scan to email/scan to network folder options.
I have created a share on my router (192.168.1.1) which I can access happily from Windows using \\192.168.1.1\scan (no authentication required). However, setting this path up in EWS works but the printer cannot connect to it asking me to ensure that the computer is actually switched on (which it is).
Secondly, I set up scan to email using EWS and after successfully entering various settings for the out-going server I do get an email confirming that the scan to email option is configuired correctly but when I access it from the printer, it fails to send the scan with a "Server failure: Ttry again later" error message.
My network settings are ok and I do have proper DNS servers defined.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Cheers,
Steve

For the Scan to network folder, turn off your firewall software on the PC and try again. If the user account on your PC does not have a password, then please assign a password, and then enter your PC username and password for the folder authentication.

Thank you DexterM,
I managed to set up a shared folder on my Windows box and scanned to it successfully.
I then also managed to set up a samba share on my Linux box protected by a username/password.
So I think the scan to network folder is kind of solved. Although I don't understand why you have to have username/password for it to work...
That only leaves the email issue. Have you got any hints what might be wrong? As I said I do get a confirmation email but the scan to email fails with the error message "Server failure: Try again later"
Cheers,
Steve

It's only to authenticate the printers' access to the network folder.

IMO, this totally depends on the POP\SMTP settings. If the ports are wrong, or if the wrong Authentication type are selected, then the email server might not be accessible.

The folder was set up not requiring authentication and I left the username/password fields blank and that didn't work. I actually needed to change it to require authentication to make it work with the printer.
Wrt to the SMTP settings, I can only see the SMTP settings (not sure why POP would be required anyway) and they work fine. As I say I do get the confirmation email ok so it manages to connect to the smtp server (smtp.ntlworld.com port 25 and no SSL/authentication) when setting it up. It just fails during the scan.
Cheers,
Steve

DexterM,
I can email the scan results to my hotmail account using their smtp server. It appears that the printer does like smtp connections which don't require authentication(like NTLs). I guess this is a bug in the current firmware...
At least it is consistent behaviour as it does not like scanning to folders that don't require authentication, either.
Cheers,
Steve
