HP Officejet 5600 All-in-One, installation in win 7

My new HP computer ( 3 mos old ) came with windows vista and had a free upgrade to windows 7. I recently installed the win 7 upgrade and have been unable to install all of my HP Deskjet 5600 software. The CD that came with my printer is not compatable with win 7. I downloaded and installed the win 7 driver and software from the HP support web site, during the software installation when I was prompted to connect the USB cable to the printer, the installation program didn't recognize the printer once it was connected, and I am unable to run the HP Solution Center. I keep getting the following error message; "Hp solution center cannot run because your device installation is not complete", I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software numerous times.
