HP PSC 1200 Cartridge Errors

Ok here what is happening, I have a computer running XP SP2 with all updated drivers etc.

 

My HP PSC 1200 All-in-one is fully installed and updated with the latest drivers.

 

As of the last month the printer has been popping the E light, saying the "Problem with the Print Cartridge", I have done everything to my knowledge to do.. I

 

1 - Re installed Printer Drivers

 

2 - Re installed "2" NEW sets of print cartridges

 

3 - Using contact cleaner I carefully cleaned all the contacts on both the cartridges and the printer as well making sure to let it dry completely for 12 hours before reinstalling carts. and hooking back up to computer

 

4 - I repeated steps 1 + 2 after I cleaned all the contacts and let completely dry.

 

5 - Finally I took the printer and installed it onto a different machine. Same problem.

 

Any sort of insight into this issue would be greatly appreciated, this printer has been great with no problems up until this point.  Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Like I stated, any advice would be appreciated.

What a drag that you didn't get a solution for this question.  I had the exact same problem today. (12/16/11).  Haven't used the PSC 1200 in a few years.  But I did, every once in a while, print something to keep the cartridges flowing.  But my Epson kicked the bucket so I'm back to my HP PSC 1200.  I actually love this printer.  Way better than Epson.  Except that, today when I tried to print somethin, I got the cartridge error window saying it didn't recognize the Black cartridge. But it's a HP cartridge.  This problem first began with the Black cartridge.  I went to "Ink Level" in the tools and there was no Black cartridge there.  Only the color cartridge was there with the ink level showing.  So I took the black cartridge out, put it back in a few times.  Turned the printer off. Turned it back on and then the color cartridge came up as an error. (It too is a HP cartridge)   Oh yeah, the "E" shows on the dash board too.  Then I turned the printer off and  on a few times more, once with the cartridges in and once with the cartridges out. Turned it on again and the "add new hardware" wizard comes up.   I select the HP folder from my Temp file where the instal file is for them to get the driver from and  Windows (I have XP) informs me that they couldn't find the file, so I closed down the wizard and the printer mysteriously recognized both the cartridges and is printing again.   ????
