HP Photosmart 3210 won't install on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

HP Photosmart 3210 won't install on a brand new desktop running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  I downloaded the most recent software and when I run it, the install window disappears shortly after it starts.  No error message.  I have run into several related issues lately.  I can't install a ScanJet 5590 on a brand new laptop running Window 7 Pro 32-bit.  That one says it finishes, but nothing is installed.   Could the fact that there are other HP printers installed on those computers (network printers installed using driver only) before attempting to install the software be causing problems?  I've spent HOURS trying to solve these.

Re: HP Photosmart 3210 won't install on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

Sorry you are having problems with your installations.

Specifically, where in the setup does the installation disappear?

If it is after you select software to install, one of the options should let you turn off checking the internet for updates for the installation and in cases where the installation collapsed immediately after, it resolved the issue no problem.

If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

Re: HP Photosmart 3210 won't install on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

It seems like a move in the right direction.  I selected NO to looking for updates and the install went MUCH farther this time.  It found the printer on the network and all seemed fine until the very end.  During the "installing printer" portion, a red circle with an X appears and said the printer setup failed to complete.

Re: HP Photosmart 3210 won't install on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

Ok, much better progress!

If the software is still installing, tell it you will connect later.

Go to devices and printers, look for the printer in here, make sure there are no documents pending to print and delete the printer if it is there.

Next, go to device manager and delete any photosmart 3200 series drivers you find, you may have to click view hidden devices in the view menu.

Third, go back to devices and printers. Highlight a different printer, like the XPS writer that comes with Windows. Along the top, with add a device, add a printer, you should see print server properties. Select that, and go to the drivers tab. If you have any HP drivers in there you don't use, select them and select remove and "remove driver only."

Now, reboot and go to your start menu, and your HP folder. You should have the software installed, just no device driver, select "add a device" or "printer setup and software." The installation should complete no problem.

One final thing, you should temporarily disable firewalls and antivirus software when you are installing, in case it is mistakingly trying to block the install attempt.

Happy Printing!
