HP Photosmart B210 Scan Problem windows 7

Hi,

I've been searching online, and saw other people had this problem, but so far nothing has seemed to fix it. I have a Photosmart B210 connected via USB to Windows 7 64-bit. Everything works fine except for scanning to computer. When I try to scan, from the HP software, the printer will say "now scanning..." and the computer will say "preparing to scan" and I can hear it working. However it doesn't work and I ge this error:

"Scanner Unreachable"
"Scanner communication cannot be established. Ensure your product is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly..."

I know it's not the cable because I can print and scan to the memory card which I can see on the computer. I clicked activate scan to computer, it shows the pc on the printer. I checked under services and WIA is activated and so is Shell Hardware detection. I ran the HP update utility, it updated 2 things, I restarted, but that didn't fix it. It worked when I first bought it last year, but for some reason a few months ago it stopped being able to scan to my computer.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer last month a couple times and that didn't fix anything. Not really sure what to do at this point. I read one forum post that said it is HP's fault for not fixing its drivers to be compatible with Windows 7 64-bit after a windows update came out.

Hello fletchffletch

Have you tried to run the HP Print and Scan Doctor? If not I suggest you do as it is a diagnostic utility that cn sometimes find and resolve problems like this.

http://www.hp.com/go/tools

I also found an article that mentions "Scanner Unreachable" with the article about a Network security suite that has a firewall. Do you have any firewalls (including Windows Firewall) enabled?

HP Network Scan Fails to Install or Function with BitDefender

Re: HP Photosmart B210 Scan Problem windows 7

Thanks for the reply. I ran the diagnostic tool (twice) after disabling windows firewall and norton, and it is the same error as before. It is telling me it is a problem with Windows (WIA) scan error.

However, if I skip the Windows WIA test, the HP TWAIN Scan works fine. Is it possibly to scan through that?

Re: HP Photosmart B210 Scan Problem windows 7

Hello fletchffletch

Try the following steps to ensure that Windows Image Acquisition is running properly (as well as any services that are dependent on each other).

1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files
2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition
3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure
4. Restart the computer

Restart the Dependencies services:
1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.
2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.
4. 2 services should be listed.
5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.
7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.
8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.
9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error.

Check dependencies or sub dependencies:

Right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list: Remote Procedure Call RPC and Shell Hardware Detection

Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA

Yea, I followed all those steps and still not working. All those services listed were running already too. I ran the Print and Scan Doctor again for the scanner, and it is still a problem with WIA (TWAIN works fine though as before).

Re: HP Photosmart B210 Scan Problem windows 7

Hello fletchffletch

This sounds like a problem with Windows and not the the driver since the problem is with Windows Image Acquisition. Do you have another computer you can try to install the printer on?

You may want to contact Microsoft about the problem..
