HP Photosmart C4680 Software not compatible with Windows 7 [ Edited ]

I have just recently upgraded my HP Pavilion DV5 1138-nr Entertainment Notebook PC to Windows 7. I was successful reinstalling all of my software, but the software on the disc for the HP Photosmart C4680 will not install. I did not have trouble installing the drivers because they were already built into Windows. But it would be nice to have software that tells me when the ink will run out so i know when to buy more ink. Basically, it says that I cannot install this software in 'Run as...' mode, which I am not. It says i need to be logged into an Administrators account, but I am logged in as one. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I would suggest disconnecting the printer from the computer, uninstall the drivers, then download and install the full featured HP driver from here.

Thank you very much Bob for supplying me with this information. Though I had to keep the printer plugged in to remove the driver, then I have to unplug it. I got no error messages throughout the whole installation.

Hi this solition did not work for me.

The printer is a C4680

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

I downloaded the software from HP.com

Ran the install and get "Fatal Error during installion" in the title of this dialog box the program is "hpzprl01.exe -inf -..."

I let it do the error recovery that included a reboot.

I followed the steps in "HP Installation Error - Windows 7" in the USB section.

Same problem. 

I ran the app that reads the log files and creates a zip file with a error number for a name (don't remember the app name). The error number is "15174968".

Any Ideas????????

I have sort of the same problem.  My Printer is HP Deskjet All-In-One F4240; my brand new computer is HP-Pavilion P6331p;

with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64 bit).  Sorry about the long winded description but I didn't know what was necessary.  Please explain how I would go about uninstalling drivers.  I'm a mechanical amateur. My printer works fine, but

the disk to install printing tips and ink changing data, could not work with the new Windows 7.  Thank you for your help.

Since this is a brand new computer, there is no printer software to uninstall. Click on the Support & Drivers at the top of the page to search and download the drivers and software for your printer. It's really not difficult at all.

I have a similar problem with the C7280.  I have a new Dell desktop with Windows 7 and the HP s/w worked fine for awhile.  It is now showing a compatibility issue when I try to add the C7280 after I have unistalled the drivers and re-installed them...MANY, MANY times.

From the Support and Drivers section, the Windows 7 64-bit basic driver for the Photosmart C4680  just disappears after the extracting progress bar reaches 100 %.  An install window never appears.  This occurs even after a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit.  I was avoiding the Full Feature driver, but may try it.  Printing is not vital on this new laptop.
