HP Photosmart C4750 Installation Failure

So recently, my printer stopped working on my wireless network, and a family member thought it would be a good idea to hit the "Restore Network Defaults" button. Since then, we've only been able to print from usb connection. More recently, I've tried to fix this issue by uninstalling and re-installing the device software. I heard that on first installation the software would try to connect to the network the computer was on automatically, so I figured that was the easiest option. I did the whole "HP Cleanup" process and uninstalled the driver correctly, but when I try to re-install the software from the disk or even the downloaded software from the HP site, it doesn't work. The main problem that I'm running into is that the installation automatically exits after it tries to "apply updates" in the first phase of installation. The window just closes down and doesn't reappear. I've typed this problem several times into Google (this forums search utility sucks) each time phrased differently and so far I've come up with nothing that's even similar to the problem I'm having. I've tried a few things that I've seen on your site and then running setup, but the same exact thing happens. I'm assuming that this is a rare error and that something's wrong with the files it's trying to apply for updates.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I really need the scanner feature of this product for my work. Thanks.

Try using the scrubber built into the CD or Download.

From Original installation CD:

1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer

2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

Actually I'd rather not do that if this could happen to my other computers. It seems like it's something to do with some leftover files hiding in my computer, not the software itself. I've tried the HP cleanup solution or whatever but the same thing happened.

In order to help isolate this issue it would be helpful to know if the printer installs ok on a different computer. If you have the same issue then it is related to the hardware, and if you are successfully able to install the printer on other computer then we need to look at something in the operating system on your computer which is contributing to the installation failure. Let me know what you would like to do?

Alright, I'll re-install it on my desktop. It's an OS is XP though so will that even help since it's different from Windows 7? Also, my other laptop is Windows 7 and it works fine on there through usb, but like I said I don't want this printer to become completely useless on all my computers if we can't resolve this issue. So I will only do that if I absolutely must.

If this printer is working fine on the laptop using Win 7 then that is an indication that the hardware of the printer is fine.

Have you run any recrent updates on your computer when this printer started to have issue?

Are you having other issues with the operating system on this computer?
