HP Scan Application Can't Save to eMail

Hello,

I have a machine that is currently running Windows Vista 64-bit. It is connected via Ethernet to a scanner, the HP CM2320 to be exact. The software package includes a scanning application, simply called 'Scan', that can scan and then send the file as a .PDF to your eMail client, attaching the file to a fresh eMail. However, when I tell it to do so, it responds with:

"Your email application returned an error so the message could not be created or sent. Please try again."

However, no matter how many times you try again, you just get the same error message.

The application has no problem scanning and then saving the file to the local or networked hard disk, but just can't seem to attach the .PDF to an eMail.

Does anyone happen to have some tips or a solution to resolving this issue? I've scaled Google, but still no luck. I'd appreciate any advice!

I'm working with the OP.  Here are some additional details:

Curiousguy,  Scan to email has been setup.  Other machines in the office can scan without an issue. 

NEW INFO,  when the default email app on the machine is changed to windows mail it works!  Switch back to outlook and it fails.  No other app on the machine has issues with doing a "send to email".  Other programs, like IE, start outlook and attach their contents to a new message as expected.  Only the HP scanning software is having this prob. 

So this seems to be something specific between  the HP software and outlook installed on this machine.  This machine and a few others are generally new and have the same versions of Office and the HP software installed.

I'm going to chant at the alter of Google with the new details.

Try opening HP Solution Center, and then go to Settings>Email Settings and set Outlook as the default email client. Now try scanning. Does it work now?

I'm afraid (though relieved) that it was even more simple than that. I simply reinstalled the drivers and that fixed everything. This should of been the first thing I did.. Oh, well. Some of us learn the hard way I guess. At least the next poor chap who has this issue will have some results on Google. Thank you all for the advice.

Walp, I hate to say it, but it appears this same problem has came up again on the same computer and scanner..

I uninstalled all software and drivers related to HP, cleaned up the left-behind files and registry entries using Ccleaner and then reinstalled the full driver once again. However, it didn't fix the issue this time.

If Outlook is not open and I use the scan utility, it will open up a message in Outlook 2007 and attach the scan like it should. But if Outlook is already open and I try to scan, then I get that old familiar error message:

"Your email application returned an error so the message could not be created or sent. Please try again."

Trying to follow DexterM's advice, but I'm afraid I can't find any software installed on the computer called HP Solution Center. I downloaded the full driver package for Vista64 called 'HP Color LaserJet CM2320 MFP Series Full Solution AM-EMEA1'.

If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Having this issue right now. When the user tries to Scan to Outlook 2007 Email, the full text of the error message is "The HP Scan application is unable to open your email application and/or cannot attach the scan to a new email. Please check your email configuration and try again."

The issue isn't 100% reliable, the user has been able to attach emails some of the time. Another annoying thing about this is once you decide to save to email, you no longer get the option to save to desktop when this operation fails. 26 page scan, to the trashcan!

I also do not have an HP Solution Center. I believe this is software installed on HP branded computers out of the box.  Windows Default Programs shows Outlook as being default for all mail applications however.  Please see attached image.

I have tried this over and over again, but Outlook is not recognized by HP; it's just not there as an option.
