HP c5280 photosmart all in one Printer Prints half pages and random characters

Hi,

Hp c2580 Photosmart all in one

Operating system: WIndows Vista

Errors:Test page and other documents print incomplete (only a quarter of the page with obscure characters)and , page diagnosis does not print stating that it was unable to establish a two way connection. 

First day- I had attempted to print a pdf document 14 pages in total but only 10 printed, after that every paper had random characters for one line on the upper part of the page, leaving the rest of the page blank. After that I had attempted to print again but the remaining pages did not print at all, only random characters appeared on the top part of the pages printed.

I switched off the computer and printer and unplugged them both for 5 minuted but again when switched on the pages were still incorrect.I carried out catridge cleaning, but the catridge alignment failed.After 2 hours, I decided to unistall the software, restart the PC, re-install the software and connect the printer when prompted, I did this more than 3 times.Although it did not work.  Then I tried printing a different pdf document which worked fine. Although when I returned to the original document it again printed random characters. After that stage every other pdf document I printed , came out with random characters and no correct pages even when I converted one of the pdf documents to word and tried to print it.Also on the last try I uninstalled the software and downloaded it from the HP website, along with connecting the printers usb cable to another port on my computer.But still the documents printed wrongly.

2nd day

When I turned on the PC and the printer , the solution centre keeps saying that the printers disconnected even though it was connected to my computers usb port.In addition when unplug it, it says its offline(very weird). I tried changing the usb port but it still said the printer was disconnected and the printed pages still contained random characters. Next I installed the software to my laptop and connected the printer. Even though the printer was said to be connected the test page still came out with a half cut Hp logo and line followed by a random character second page.I then tried to print the original first pdf document,  although a blank page and random characters were produced.

One thing I also noticed each time when I was trying to print was that for example I would print 3 pages and on the details for the printout in the que it would say:    pages

                                                                    3/3   then when the printing actually started it would changes to:

                                       pages

                                        9/3    I don't understand why 9 pages are due to be printed when I only asked for 3

Please could anybody provide a solution.

Try a Partial reset, i had the same problem and it worked for me,

Press both the Red Eye and Print Photos buttons together,
Then let go of them.

It will say enter key combo on the printers little screen,

Then pres the redeye button, then the print photos, then red eye again one by one,

It will then say something else one the screen that looks like a code,

Then press the right arrow key and cycle to where it says Partial / full reset

hit ok and ok

it will do a reset, and most likley tun the power off, Wait 5 pins and press the on button,

When it starts up fillow the setup on screen usually just pressing ok to every question

Then it will do a print alignment page print out.

When its finished , pull out the usb cable , count to 20 and plug it back in,

Wait a minute,

Then it should be working fine again !
