HP officejet 6500 E709 series

I have replaced my black inc cartridge with a new HP xl. The window on the screen shows the cartridge is full, but unlike the color cartridges the black has a verticle line like there are two sections to the cartridge. It has printed fine for a while and now has faded and acts like it is empty. We probably have printed less than 100 pages since installing. The ink appears to be trying release into the print head but no black printing occurs.

Any ideas?

Re: HP officejet 6500 E709 series

Hi J44Walker,

I don't have any ideas that are going to be popular...

Ink cartridges can die before their time.  I never gave it any thought until recently when I saw one of our experts respond to a request similar to your own.

Ink Cartridges are covered by a Warranty.  The little boxes are guaranteed not be be defective until they are empty of ink.  I use the xl black ink - 100 pages is not a lot of pages.

Here's the doc on the warranty; it shows where to find the little number on the cartridge.  It's a matter of calling HP and saying you want the cartridge replaced.  If you have the package, it will probably even have the contact number on it for your locale.

Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges, Printheads, and Related Supplies

I hope this helps!
