HP software for J4680 All in one

Does anyone know if the J4680 can be used without installing the included HP software.  If not, what is the minimum software needed to run it.  The software package really slows my computer down, and causes other applications to lock up.  Using XP.

Re: HP software for J4680 All in one

are you connecting the printer by the USB cable or wirelessly? you can download the basic drivers from hp.com. or do a custom installation and select only the options marked as 'Required'.

if you are connecting it by the USB cable, then just insert the USB cable and install the drivers from 'Device Manager' using the CD. once the drivers are installed, the installation will start automatically. if you cancel it, then that'll be fine also.

Re: HP software for J4680 All in one

For wireless, there is a way to manually install the printer without running the HP installation SW (this is the way I run HP printers at home).

This will get you printing but not scanning.  Tell me what type of computer you have and the type of network and I can show you how to do this.

If you want scanning to work from the PC, then you'll need to install the SW.

There are other options as well.  If you go here, you can download smaller version of the printer SW.
