Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

I have an old HP photosmart 1000 printer and am trying to install the driver to my Windows 7 OS.  Previously, at HP's help desk informed me install HP 760Cse driver to print with Vista OS and it works great.  This time however, with OS Win 7,  I manually installed the HP 1000 driver and the HP 760Cse driver and still the printer is not functional.  Please HELP!!

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

This is leebc, again. I am updating my post from yesterday. Additonal question: How can I take the software from my Vista OS laptop, which has the functioning printer driver loaded onto it (ie, the HP 760Cse driver which works perfectly with my old photosmart printer) and run a compatibility mode in Windows 7 to get the printer to work on my Win 7 laptop????? Please experts, help!!

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi leebc,

Follow the instructions below.

1. Open devices and printer

2. Click Add a printer

3. Click Add a local printer

4. From the Use existing port select the USB option, and then click next

5. Click on the Windows Update button to get all support window 7 drivers updated

6. Once update is finished. Click on HP from left menu, and then select the Deskjet 990c from the right menu, and then click next.

7. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the installation.

Once you have the 990c printer added make sure it is the default printer, and then try printing to your Photosmart 1000 printer using this driver. Let me know if you have the same issue?

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi I too am having the same problems finding a driver with Windows 7 and the Photosmart 1000 printer.  I have just followed the instructions you gave to the person who posted.

Although there are 'noises' between the laptop and the printer when I try tp print a test page for example, it pulls the paper through the printer but it is just blank.

Any ideas?

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi 123jake,

Do the cartridges still have ink in them?

Print a test page from the priner, and let me know if it prints ok?

HP Photosmart 1000, 1100, and 1115 series printers

  1. Ensure that the memory card has been removed from the memory card slot.
  2. Make sure plain paper is loaded in the In Tray.
  3. On the control panel, press the Right arrow in the Tools button until Print a Test Page? is displayed.
  4. Press the OK/Yes button.

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

The printer has ink and prints a test page.

I have an old laptop with XP as the OS and it will print everything OK on that one.

As I said with my new laptop with Windows 7 I just get blank pages

Look forward to hearing back

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi 123jake,

Try installing the printer using the HP business inkjet 1000 driver from Add a printer. Let me know if this driver works any better?

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Thanks again for the suggestion.

This time, after trying the one you said, the printer light is flashing and a message comes up on the printer saying 'Printing from PC' but nothing is happening - I've waited about 5 minutes and it is still flashing. It does the same for a document or if I try to print a test page from the PC

Any more ideas??

Thanks

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi 123jake,

The 990c driver should be the one that works for you. Have you tried installing this printer on a different computer running Win 7 using the 990c driver to see if we are facing a system issue on this computer?

Re: Help with a HP Photosmart printer and Windows 7

Hi

Thanks for the reply but that driver for the 990c is the one I started with. It sounds like it will print but I the paper is coming through blank.

I don't have access to any further computers as you suggest.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks
