Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet R40 Scanner is actually a PSC 500

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP on my Compaq Presario.  XP detected the PSC 500 all-in-one as an OfficeJet R40.

I deleted the OfficeJet R40 printer and manually added the printer PSC 500 from the control panel's printer folder.

When I reboot, XP always detects "new hardware" and adds back the Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet R40 Printer and Hewlett-Packard OfficeJet R40 Scanner.  I don't see a way to clear the "extra" printer.

HP Doc on R series, PSC500 installation on XP:

if no difference in functionality, I suggest keep the printer that XP detects, and remove the one you created. You can rename the one XP creates to whatever name you prefer - PSC500 in the printer folder.
