I have two printers networked with my new Photosmart 6510. They work great. But for 2 months I will be in a motel, and prefer NOT to use their wireless for networking. Exactly how do i switch back from wireless connection to using a USB?

Hello edspiderelrod
Do you still need help with that or is your printer in working order now? You should be able to just plug the USB cable in and it should be fine. If it has any problems it may need to be re-installed for USB.

It's working fine as wireless, thank you. But in a month I will be in a hotel for two months, and I don't want to run my printer through the hotel's wireless. So I will just plug in the USB cord and see what happens. Can't give you a kudo--yet.

My printer is set up and works great on my wireless network. I have to use it for a project where wireless is unavailable. I tried to switch from wireless to USB by simply plugging the usb in and it won't work. I also tried to reinstall the printer software with the usb and it still will not work. How can I use my printer when there is no wireless available?

I had no problem switching. I disconnected the printer, shut it down, moved it to the new location, plugged in the USB cord, turned it on, and it works fine on the USB connection. Did NOT reinstall anything. As a mater of fact, whenever i click on the icon for the printer, I get a dialog window which asks whether I want the printer that's connected by the USB or the version that could be wireless. Naturally I chose the USB version. Basically, I just pretended there was no wireless and let the printer initialize itself.

Hello edspiderelrod
Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear the printer is easily working on USB after switching from Wireless.

guess you're lucky. I'm still having issues. My printer & computer won't talk with a USB. It's basically useless unless there is a wireless signal.

I assume you tried turning everything off, then back on, and then attached the USB when there's no wireless. Wish i could help more, but I was just lucky, I guess.

Hello jeterfan24
Try what spiderelrod suggested? If that doesn't work try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor while it is connected with USB.
