"Help" told me to reinstall a fresh driver for my HP CN731A, Model D110A but I need to first uninstall the old software. Can you tell me how to do that?

OK,
It seems to me as Bonjour Multicasting issue..
Any Mac OS uses Bonjour to communicate with the device.. Bonjour relies on IP or DNS multicasting to properly communicate with the device. and that depands both on your Mac, Printer and the router.
I believe that the problem may caused by the router.. some routers do not support Multicasting, some will require a firmware update to support ot and some may support it but you will have to enable the protocol first..
In order to better understand the cause, please try adding the printer by IP instead, it will provide printing only but will let us a better picture of any possible cause:
- Temporary unplug the USB cable
- Print a Network Configuration page to locate the IP / URL address of the printer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02786894&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4023246&tmp ... - Enter Syste Preferences > Print & Scan.
- Click the Plus button to add a printer.
- Click the IP icon at the top.
- Select the HP JetDirect Socket protocol.
- Enter the IP address into the Address field and then click Add
- You will see anew printer queue named by the printer IP address.
- Try printing wirelessly by using this queue
If you are able to print, therefore we may figure that the network connectivity working as expected, beside the Multicasting part.
I would suggest you to contact your router service provider and check if your router supports Multicasting - If so check how to enable Multicasting within your router configuration (May be named as Bonjour, Multicasting, mDNS), check for any available firmware update for your router.
For any issue, please let me know your router brand, model and firmware update, i will try my best to better understand your router copabilities.
Regards,
Shlomi

Shlomi,
Thanks so much for your help. I've contacted the Belkin people and they say that Belkin routers don't support multicasting. Sounds crazy to me but I guess that's the case. I need to figure out if I can scan using the IP Address. It prints using that address. If it will scan I'll just use it that way. If you have any other advice, I'm open to it.
Belkin.244, Model F9K1103V1, Serial # 121122GG134814, Firmware 1.00.46 (2011/10/28 6:37:11)
The tech told me to see if there's anyway I can scan as well as print using the IP Address. Is there?
Peter

Hi Peter,
You're gladly welcome.
Please try the following amd let me know of that helps:
Enter Applications > Hewlett-Packard and launch the HP Scan 3 application.
Click the Scan Settings icon (the left icon at the very bottoom).
Click Edit.
Click the drop-down menu next to Scanner and click Browse Scanners.
If the scanner is listed, select it and try scanning.
If the scanner is not listed, the only possible workaroud is the EWS Webscan feature:
Enter the EWS by typing the printer IP into your browser.
Click the Scan tab.
Perform the scan and right click (CTRL + Left from the Mac keyboard) the output image to save the scan.
Regards,
Shlomi
