How do get hp deskjet 6940's network light to come on.

I just received a hp deskjet 6940 printer. When I plug in the the ethernet to the printer the network lights in the back don't light up. I have cord plug into my printer and my router which is a Linksys. My router on my computer works, but nothing light up for the printer.

Re: How do get hp deskjet 6940's network light to come on.

Try unlpugging the cable from your computer and connect this to the 6940.  If that works I would suspect the cable, perhaps it is a corssover cable rather than the standard LAN cable you will need.

Thanks for the information. I kept re-plugging the ethernet cord and the light finally came on. Thanks for the help.

Re: How do get hp deskjet 6940's network light to come on.

just to advise you on additional information

on ethernet capable printers

first you will see that the IP of the

printer will change from time to time

first go to the printer folder

and right click and if there is a

adminstrator mention click it

making sure that you are in the

admistrator or owner's account

then you will need to go the the printer IP

and you will need to look in your owner's

manaul because you will need the

user name and password

DO NOT MODFIY THE PASSWORD

and look for the  network configuration

and select configure TCP/IP

and select STATIC

click okay

this will keep the IP and prevent it from

changing IP
