We have moved from Australia to UK bringing our HP C4599 with us.
In Australia we used HP74 and 75 cartridges. In uk we need, and have, HP 350 and 351
I have tried resetting the country using:
Access the Special Menu:
-press the CANCEL and POWER button at the same time
-enter Special Key Combo -->press BLUE, GREEN, GREY button in sequence
-Support Menu will display
-keep pressing GREY button to highlight Reset's Menu
-OK to reset
-Set language to English and Region to Europe on restart
The error message still shows incompatible cartridges.
Is this the correct sequence to reset? If not, could somebody please post the sequence?
Chris

You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work. HP's web page on the subject is here.

Thank you, this is now solved.
For others with the same problem:
You must have the printer connected by USB to a computer to work through the process so better set that up before ringing.
You may need the old country cartridges for the process, so do not throw them away until success
To be sure the printer was connected by the correct USB port, and not via a wireless connection, I had to uninstall the printer and reinstall with USB connection (the C4599 has built in wireless connection) just prior to the process - that was attempt 2 for me.

Please post the procedure to change the country/region code for the c3180 printers. I can get authentic HP cartridges for this printer online much cheaper than buying them locally Why does HP do this in the first place?

There is no simple procedure that can be posted, the codes depend on the printer and various bits of information from your printer and system that are hashed and then used to calculate a reset.
HP's web page on the subject is here and it says in part "HP customizes some products and cartridges to meet specific local customer needs. During your initial printer setup, the printer automatically set itself to accept cartridges specific to a country or region." Your case would not be eligible for a region reset.

{Content Removed} the printer does not know where it is when you plug it in. if i bought the printer in europe and had it shipped to the usa you are saying that it would know it is in the usa and therefore need usa coded cartridges. hp is not playing fair with their products and controling their profits by charging more in europe. this is the same type of thing apple did with their ipod or whatever it is called, locking it into a specific carrier. unfortunately for hp users it is that hackers do not jailbreak the printers because there is no demand like for phone products. i came to europe with a cell phone that worked fine here except it was locked into a usa carrier. calls were like $2.00/minute. using local carriers the same calls were only 30 cents. fortunately i was able to "jailbreak" my phone and it then accepted local sims and worked just fine at the lower rates.
this is not customer orientation, this is pure profit orientation. i wouldn't even buy an hp tablet at $100 that they recently dumped on the market because they no longer want to be in that business anymore. i guess they saw more profitable horizons elsewhere.
goodbye hp, never again.

well then, my solution and help for other hp customers is to avoid hp products because of their unfair, discriminatory business practices. OK? Is this enough help for other hp customers?

I may be wrong, but....
My understanding is that the resetting of the country, as a warranty issue, is as cover for the warranty of the ink cartiridges bought in the new country and therefore do not work. The relevance of this is that your actual printer does not need to be in warranty for the process to be done with no charge - you just need new, locally bought, inks.
There was a question about how the printer knows what country it is in when first used - simply by the inks that are installed at that time. They define the set up country
I agree it seems difficult to understand the reason why the ink cartirdges must be country defined electronically, and are not interchangable or standardised - but the help line was extremely responsive when I used it, and the process was done quickly once the printer was attached by line rather than wireless.
It is an irritation, but should only take a few minutes.
