I have a brand new Deskjet D2600. After I installed it and printed a test page, the swirling hourglass popped up and sits in the center of my desktop and would not die... How to stop and remove it and prevent from popping up again?

Hello ilyaz33
What kind of computer are you using? Typically the hourglass would mean the computer is thinking and if it stays that usually indicates a problem. Are you able to move your cursor around the screen and are you able to do anything else? If you can open Task Manager and see how much CPU percentage you are using.
One last thing what printer model are you using? The Deskjet D2600 is the name of the series and could be several printers.

Thanks for your suggestions, Travis_C.
To answer your questions, I have a desktop with Win 7 Home Premium. Yes, I was able to move my cursor around the screen and was able to do generally anything else. However, this hourglass in a white square about 1 x 1 inch was hovering over a few shortcut icons in the center of my monitor preventing me from using these shortcuts. At the time, I opened Task Manager, but there was no option to remove this hourglass. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your last question. HP Deskjet D2600 is all it says. There is a s/n, which I can provide you with, if you think it will help you.
Now back to beginning of your message. Obviously, there was a problem with installation. Three attempts to install this printer (brand new from a sealed box) resulted in a software failure to detect a connected printer. Eventually, I disregarded this warning and tried to print a test page. It printed without a hitch.
As I found out, the only way to kill this hourglass was to reboot the computer.
Thanks again for trying to help me.

Hello ilyaz33
Could you take a screenshot of your desktop. I would like to see what what it looks like with the hourglass. Are you using it on USB or on the network?
As for the product number it should be next to the serial number. If you still can't find it don't worry about it.

I have no problem with the product number: FPU No. CH366-64001. I use it on USB002 Virtual printer port.
As of your request for the screenshot, I'm unable to take it. As I mentioned it in my previous post, I got rid of that hourglass when I rebooted my computer. I'm sure, I could get it again, if I'll uninstall and reinstall the software. But, frankly, I'd rather avoid all the hassle of going through this process. On the other hand, if you think that this screenshot will help you to correct the problem, I'll be willing to subject myself to this suffering again. More so, if you could provide advice and help me to smooth the process of installation.
Thanks again for trying to help me.

Hello ilyaz33
Try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor and let me know what happens. You stated the hourglass went away after you restarted so what is the error or problem you are receiving now?

The HP Print and Scan Doctor as well as other tests on that page all showed no errors: "Everything checks out OK with your product", "Your hardware passed", etc. Nevertheless, today, when I tried to print a document other than a test page, the doc would sit in the queue indefinitely and not print...

Hello ilyaz33
Thanks for clarifying. I think you should have a look at the following article. You may ignore the portion about HP Print and Scan Doctor since it can't find any problems.
