How is the scanner conected to your network?
Is it USB/Network or wirelessly conected to your internet router/modem?

That was quick!
The MFP is accessed wirelessly (and the printing works fine ...). I have, however, also tried to use the USB connection, and it hasn't made any difference :-(

Have you installed the firmware update for the printer yet?

No, I hadn't - but now I have, and it hasn't helped ....
For whatever it is worth, both printer and scanner drivers installed without any problems on my wife's laptop (running Windows 7 32 bits).
So what now? .... please ....

If both printer and scanner drivers installed w/o issues on your wife's laptop (running Windows 7 32 bits) then the issue is not with the printer.
The problem lies in your installed operating system on the PC that you are trying to install the scanner driver on.
I have an HP C310 and I have the HP Solution Center installed. That is what I use to scan wirelessly with. Unfortunately the Solution Center software is in Dutch. I have a multilingual PC setup. The scanner works flawlessly as long as I make sure that the printer is awake. I do that by touching the touchscreen panel on the printer. The only way I can use the scanner from the Windows 7 64-bit installation on this PC is via the HP Solution Canter. Doing it through Windows does not work.

Thank you for your reply & my apologies for a delayed reaction; I have been travelling ...
Your diagnostic analysis is correct - this has nothing to do with the printer. However, I cannot even install Solution Center; the process stalls at exactly 85 % each time (while unpacking?), i.e. before anything is actually installed. The error message is singularly uninstructive - something like "An error has occurred ...".

Hello navinesnej
I would say it definitely seems to be your system since it installed fine on your wife's computer. Have you tried re-downloading the software? The installation file may have become corrupt so it is not able to finish extracting the software.

Yep - tried that before, and did it again as you suggested. For good measure, I turned off firewall & antivirus, but the result was the same. During "Preparing installation .." (presumably unpacking?), the program got to 85% and then stopped, and delivered the singularly unhelpful error message "A problem occurred ...".

Hello navinesnej
Sounds like it could be a MSI Fatal Error. Please try the steps in the article below.
