I was sold short on my HP 6500 phone cord

The phone cord that came with my HP Officejet 6500 Wireless is too short.  So I went out and bought a 25' GE phone cord, but then my Fax Hardware Test failed due to "not using the correct type of phone cord".  So what is one to do to remedy this scenario?

Use a 2-conductor(1) phone cord rather than a 4-conductor(2) phone cord.

Unfortunately, no one in the entire city sells 2-conductor phone cords!  Or 2-pin/4-pin couplers!  And it doesn't seem HP sells longer versions than the measley cord that comes with the machine.  What to do?  Not even Amazon or Radio Shack sells 2-conductor phone cords!

Hi, you can check if you're using the correct type of phone cord by referring to my first post in this thread with an image of the 2-wire phone cord. If you are using 4-wire phone cord, and cannot find a 2-wire phone cord in any local store, you can get the Two-to-four wire phone cord adaptor from the HP Parts Store. Search for the part number Q3093-80004.

If you Google "HP fax cord" you will see links for www.cordsforphones.com. They stock them up to 100 feet long, and can make them even longer if needed.

cut the insulation on the phone wire, and cut the black and yellow wires (the green and red should be the center 2 conductors)

Bang On Supertech. The wires were a different on mine though, so I just cut thee 2 outside ones and it worked first time.
