Ink System Failure Officejet 6500

Hi
I have a HP Officejet 6500 and my magenta and black ink was low but was working fine. I purchased new genuine HP ink and installed the two colours into my printer before the old ones where totally empty as I had a big print job to do. After installing the ink the printer does not work, it keeps telling me that there is an INK System Failure and to turn off and on the machine. I have tried it a dozen times, including at the wall and it continues to repeat this same fault. I cant see any other error code to give you.
Please help as I have lots of printing to do.

Hi,
I looked at the solution...and have gone thru almost all my color ink and about half of the black. No matter what, I can not get the printer to print in black. I even purchased a new print cartridge and that did not work either. I'm very frustrated with this printer...its a couple of years old and not heavy usage.
fyi, cartridges are in properly, vent areas are fine, even installed new cartridges, used the printhead cleaning utility, reset the printer, cleaned all contacts.
Any other recommendations? Where can I get this serviced? I would like to get it repaired...but if I have to buy a new one...i will stay away from hp.
Please help!

I tried to follow the document but the problem could not be solved. I even purchased some more HP ink to repace the two colours I had inserted when the trouble started and even the new ones did not help. Kind of wish I didn't now, should I have just gone out and purchased a new printer, just as expensive as the ink. Is there anything else to try before I go out and get a new printer?

Sounds like the print head assembly needs to be replaced. Call our customer support at 800-474-6836 to find out the current cost of the print head. If you reside outside of the US/Canada region click on the link below to get the customer support number for your area.

I hope you can help me!!! I have read all ten pages of posts here. Have tried every solution possible. The print head was really gunked up and i followed the directions to clean it, hair dryer, let it sit out for a day, etc, etc. restarted it with the # and 3, ran align, ran clean print heads, ran every stinkin option avaible. still work work. i have pretty much exhausted what i had of my color ink, the old cartridge i had which was 1/3 full it keeps telling me is bogus. the new black cartridge wont work, and now it is telling me this is a used cartridge and it is full! this is a total nightmare. anyone have any ideas for me short of running this thing over with my car? thanks so much. This used to be a fine machine until three days ago....
