Installation MS Hardware Wizard

Upon trying to install my printer (J4550) Microsoft hardware wizard pops up. It asks if it can search the www for the driver and asks me to put in the CD that came with the printer.  My computer does not have a CD drive (netbook), so I have downloaded the software from the HP website to install the printer.  The "wizard" says it can not find the software to run the printer:robotmad:.  What can I do?

Re: Installation MS Hardware Wizard

I would suggest to install the software first and at the point where the software installation process is asking you to connect your printer there shoud be a check box on the bottom part of the window where it gives you the option to continue the installation without connecting the printer. After you finish the installation process and you are back to the desktop, connect the printer to the computer and it should find the printer drivers automatically.

Re: Installation MS Hardware Wizard

Well, I uninstalled the software, disabled the startups and systems suggested by HP, and rebooted the computer.  I installed the software, telling it I could not connect the printer, re-enabled the startups and systems and booted the computer. No error messages yet:robotindifferent:.  I plugged in the printer and the hardware wizard went through it's paces asking to access the www, etc.  The wizard reports that no hardware was installed because it could not find the software. :robotmad:  Thanks, but, any other suggestions?

Re: Installation MS Hardware Wizard

I just tried that and had no luck.  I still get the same response from the MS hardware wizard.:robotsad:

Re: Installation MS Hardware Wizard

The problem is solved. :robotvery-happy:  I had to burn the driver to a cd, install the software, and put the cd in when the "wizard" asked for it.
