I'm following the instructions to install a wireless networked C7280 printer on my MacBook Pro installed with OS X Lion. As the instructions indicate the system attempts to connect to Apple to download the drivers. However, it then fails to find them and directs me to the manufacturer site (here). Your site doesn't include the drivers, it simply references the process I am already following above. More confusing is the fact that I was able to install the printer using a USB connection but need to install so I can use it from a wireless connection.
Can you either fix Apple's reference so that it will find the proper driver OR provide me with a link to the driver so I can use my printer?
Thanks.

Hi,
As the Update download fails during the proccess, please follow the following steps:
- Download and install the HP Printer Drivers 2.8 below:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL907/en_US/HPPrinterDrivers2.8.dmg - Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan.
- Click the Plus sign and add the listed printer, it should be added with no issues now.
Please let me know of any issue,
Shlomi

I was able to download and succesfully install the drivers you linked. However, when I attempt to install the printer it still tries to find the driver on the Apple site and then indicates that the software for the printer is currently unavailable. This did not resolve the issue.

Ok, It seems as any permission issue may prevent the driver installation.
Please try repairing the disk permission:
1. Open the the Applications folder.
2. Go to the Utilities folder.
3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the proccess has been completed.
Now install the HP Printer Drivers again and try adding the printer.
Please let me know of any change.

That still did not resolve the issue. I followed the instructions exactly. There were some file permissions that it fixed.
However, when attempting to then install the printer it still attempts to look for the driver and software on the Apple site, not locally as you would expect. I then get the same error as before.
Appreciate any additional assistance. Still doesn't explain why the system isn't able to find the driver when connecting to Apple.

Well, I thought I had an answer for you, but no dice. I was able to get the printer working via USB, hoping that HP's suggestion that some printers have to first be configured that way would do the trick, but as soon as I unplugged it, it lost its connection (which makes sense) and failed to see the printer on the network when I clicked the '+', even from within the HP Utility app. My next step is going to be to physically copy the printer drivers from my older Mac in the hopes that that will fix it, since that machine can see the printer on the network (that one also has Lion, but the drivers were installed back when it was on Snow Leopard). I'll check back in if that works.

I'm having the same problem. Is anyone able to get the C7280 printer to work with Mac OS X Lion?

My printer was connected and tested from BOTH the physical NIC and wireless NIC with the same results...
I have been able to install the correct dirvers either for network or USB. The printer will install from the network, but when you go to print to the NETWORK (over TCP/IP) the print job will just sit in the queue with an error. The error is the full path to the HP driver i.e. (/Applilcations/HP.../Contenets/MACOS/HPdriver error).
I was able to print to the printer via the USB cable (which installs another instance of the printer). When I disconnect the USB, I still can not print from the networked installed printer.
NOTE: When I run the HP Manager, I am able to scan an image over the network (TCP/IP scans work). So I'm able to communicate with the printer and use SOME of the functionality, but not print.
ANOTHER NOTE: Troubleshooting this, I went into the Apple's Prin & Scan preference panel and selected Options & Supplies. From here I loaded the HP Setup Device utility and it is supposed to show a list of HP printers (I guess). USB is currently selected, so I change that to TCP/IP and it hangs for a second and then crashes wanting to send the report to Apple, which I did.
Help, still not working!
